Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is the flag carrier of Singapore, tracing its origins to Malayan Airways, which was founded in 1947 and began scheduled services between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang. Following the separation of Singapore from Malaysia, the joint carrier was split in 1972, giving rise to Singapore Airlines in its present form. The airline operates from its hub at Singapore Changi Airport, which has long been regarded as one of the world's leading aviation gateways.

The carrier maintains an extensive global network spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, Africa and the Middle East, including some of the longest non-stop commercial flights in the world, such as Singapore to New York. Its modern, wide-body fleet is built around the Airbus A350-900, Airbus A380, Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 787-10, with the 737 family operated on shorter regional routes, partly through its integration with subsidiary SilkAir. Singapore Airlines has also been a launch customer for several flagship aircraft programmes.

Singapore Airlines is a founding member of the Star Alliance, joining in 2000, which gives passengers access to a broad worldwide codeshare and connection network. Its frequent flyer programme, KrisFlyer, together with the premium PPS Club tier, is well regarded among international travellers. The airline is consistently recognised in industry rankings for its cabin service, crew training and premium products, including its Suites, First, Business and Premium Economy classes.

The group also includes the low-cost subsidiary Scoot, which extends its reach into price-sensitive markets across Asia-Pacific and beyond. While Singapore Airlines enjoys a strong reputation for service quality and operational reliability, it faces ongoing competitive pressure from Middle Eastern carriers and regional low-cost rivals on key long-haul and intra-Asian routes.
