Emirates

Emirates is the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, launched in October 1985 with financial backing from the Dubai government and initial operational support from Pakistan International Airlines. Beginning with just two leased aircraft serving routes to Karachi and Delhi, the airline has grown into one of the largest international carriers in the world and a central driver of Dubai's emergence as a global aviation hub.

The airline operates from its hub at Dubai International Airport, primarily from the dedicated Terminal 3, and connects Dubai with more than 140 destinations across six continents. Its network is built around long-haul traffic between Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas, using Dubai's geographic position as a natural sixth-freedom connecting point.

Emirates operates one of the most distinctive wide-body fleets in commercial aviation, built almost entirely around the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 777 family, with Airbus A350s entering service to support network renewal. The carrier is the largest operator of both the A380 and the 777, and its aircraft are known for features such as onboard shower spas in First Class, private suites, and the ice inflight entertainment system. The Skywards loyalty programme rewards frequent flyers across Emirates and partner airlines.

Unlike most major global carriers, Emirates is not a member of any of the three main airline alliances, instead relying on a deep bilateral partnership with Qantas and a growing list of codeshare agreements. The airline is widely recognised for premium cabin service and consistent profitability, though its concentrated reliance on a single hub and very large aircraft leaves it more exposed than most peers to disruptions affecting Dubai or wide-body demand.
